Herbert E. Anderson Jr.

Herb went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

 

Herb was born in Mishawaka, IN on April 22, 1936 to Herbert E. Anderson Sr. and Bertha Greene Anderson.  He was married to Yvonne Hayes on June 22, 1957 in Warsaw, IN. with Yvonne’s dad officiating.  He served in the U.S. Navy and taught music in their school in Washington DC until his orders sent him to serve in the Cinpac Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor Hawaii.  After his discharge in ’59 he immediately moved to Sutherlin, OR as band director and supervisor of all bands. 

In 1972 he moved to Iowa taking a position as professor of Communicative Arts Division and Head of Music Department at Vennard College.  Trained a deputation group called Christ Life singers and traveled every summer for 7 years.  Later was asked to develop a program for a two year state accredited course listing for a community college in Roseburg, OR.  He then returned to Vennard for 5 more years. 

In 1986 he was called to take the position of music minister for EMC church in Duncanville, TX   He became an ordained minister in 1993.  His first church as Senior pastor was Lakeview Chapel in California.  He was EMC Superintendent of  the Southwest District. He was pastor of several churches before retiring in 2001 due to illness. 

Herb’s life was all about loving and serving the Lord, loving people and using his love for music in directing and singing.  He directed many a choir during his life time.  Directed a play - première operetta performance with full orchestra.  Directed a community choir in performance of the Messiah every year.  He always said: “I get such a thrill in having my back to the audience and directing a choir of voices” .

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Yvonne; his children; Herb Anderson III and wife Valerie of Anderson, IN; Jon Anderson and his wife Lorna of Tillamook, OR; Lori Keller and husband Russell of Bangs, TX; Matthew Anderson and his wife Amanda of Omaha, NE: Jeremy Anderson and wife Jennifer of Bend, OR; his two sisters; Jeanette Felabom of Tucson, AZ, Marilyn Campbell and husband, Fred of Broken Arrow, OK; his grandchildren, Kristen, Traci, and Nick Anderson, Stacy and Michael Anderson, Adam, Aaron, and Allie Keller, Hayes and  Maylin Anderson, Jacob Peller, Tanner and Wyatt Anderson; great grandchild, Ashlynn Anderson.
